A Transference spell magically transports the user from one place to another. Miss Hardbroom uses this spell to appear and disappear.

Description[]

A transference spell allows one to disappear effortlessly from one place and end up in another. When first learning such spells it can be diffcult to get the destination right, which can lead to some entertaining situations.

In Miss Cackle's Birthday Surprise, Enid Nightshade uses the following incantation for teleporting Mildred Hubble around: Hocus Pocus, Habeas Corpus, (or Luminus Focus,) Tempus Tempore, Nunc Transportus!

Mildred has been transferred by Miss Hardbroom, and describes it as feeling "a bit weird. HB did it to me once and you feel sort of squashed and pulled at the same time" but "it's all over in a few seconds and then you suddenly arrive where you've been sent.".[1]

Use[]

In the 1998 TV series, Miss Hardbroom was the only witch (aside from Hecketty Broomhead) who was shown to possess this ability, although in the 2017 TV series, the other teachers were shown to be capable of this as well. Hence, the students often say that one never knew if she is truly gone, or if she was still there in an invisible state. She herself does nothing to dispel this. Miss Hardbroom also sometimes uses these spells on the students as well.

During an unexpected honest conversation between Miss Hardbroom and Mildred, the former explained that her ability to appear out of nowhere was actually "a professional secret".[2]

While disguised as Miss Granite, Agatha Cackle is able to appear and disappear HB-style.[3]

Mildred eventually learns to Materialize like Miss Hardbroom.[4]
