Dave "Spike" Jones is Mildred's and Izzy's father, and Julie Hubble's former boyfriend.

In her second year, Mildred learns from her mother that her father was a non-magical plumber named Dave, and he doesn't know about Mildred as he had lost touch with Julie by the time she realized she was pregnant. Julie says Dave was kind, funny and quite clumsy. She asks Mildred if she would like to track him down, and she says maybe one day.
Spike Jones is Mildred’s dad, which makes Mildred and Izzy are half-sisters. Julie met Spike while traveling in Morocco, and she gave him her phone number on her ‘lucky stone’ (actually a witch’s grounding stone). However, they lost contact when Spike accidentally put the stone through the wash, and Julie’s number was washed off.
Fifteen years later, after Mildred was suffering a "Magical Burnout" is invited to staying with Spike and Izzy at their farm, when she discovers her family's grounding stone, and she finds out that Spike was her mother’s boyfriend, and therefore her father, also making Izzy, Mildred’s half sister.
